Petals & Pinions

CURATED VINTAGE WATCHES

Frequently Asked Questions

How Long have you been in business?

We started Petals & Pinions in November 2025, however, our experience and passion for watches extends back much further. Our founder, Jack, originally began collecting, restoring, and reselling watches way back in 2011. See our full story at our About Us page

Where are you located?

We are based in downtown Chicago, Illinois only a few blocks west of the iconic Navy Pier

How do you guarantee authenticity?

We perform a detailed inspection on every watch we sell, including a movement evaluation and timegrapher analysis. We provide high resolution images of each watch and publish a highly detail condition report listing all findings. We strive for 100% transparency on all our listings and thoroughly note any non-original parts or instances of re-finishing and polishing.

WHAT DOES YOUR NAME MEAN?

Our name reflects the balance present in every great watch: Petals for artistic beauty, and Pinions for engineering ingenuity. This name also carries a secondary personal meaning, reflecting the relationship between Jack and his significant other — he being more the logical pinion, and she the emotional petal.

Do you accept offers and negoitation?

Yes! We welcome fair offers on our watches. Click the Inquire button on the product page or send an email to offers@petalsandpinions.com

What experience do you have with vintage watches?

We have nearly 15 years of experience collecting, repairing, and enjoying vintage mechanical watches. For more information on our credentials, reference our About page

What is a Pinion?

Great question! Pinions are small gears that are pivotal components within a mechanical watch movement. Pinions mesh with larger gears, often called “wheels”, to transfer power to drive the hands of the watch.

How do you determine approximate age of manufacture?

We reference a variety of sources for aging our watches, including reference numbers and original marketing material. For most watches, we provide a approximate age (i.e. decade of production) as determining exact production year is often not possible.
