Founded in 1868 in Schaffhausen, Switzerland by 27-year old American watchmaker Florentine Jones, International Watch Company was conceived as a union of American industry and Swiss watchmaking tradition. From the onset, IWC distinguished itself through its engineering-driven approach, favoring technical rigor and mechanical robustness over ornamentation. This philosophy led to the development of highly durable movements such as the renowned Caliber 89, earning the brand a strong reputation for watches designed for professional use.

Throughout the 20th century, IWC became closely associated with aviation and tool watches, producing landmark designs including early pilotโ€™s watches and later the military-spec Mark series. At the same time, the manufacture applied this same technical discipline to restrained dress watches, resulting in pieces that balanced elegance with mechanical robustness. Today, IWC watches continue the tradition of purpose-built timepieces and a commitment to form that follows function.
